Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, the terrifyingly gorgeous red wedding gown from 1988’s Beetlejuice.
The Beetlejuice cosplayer is wearing an elegant red wedding dress that reminds us of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.
Cosplayer @_andthemoon_ went to Los Angeles’ WonderCon 2023 and was featured in the dress worn by Ryder in the final scene of Tim Burton’s 1988 comedy masterpiece. The iconic moment from the film involved Deetz being pressured by Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to get married so she can bring chaos to the mortal world. The cosplayer perfectly captured the gothic introvert in Deetz from her hairstyle to makeup, and the same red outfit.

Beetlejuice was Burton’s 2nd major studio film following his breakout success with 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. It told the story of the dismal Maitlands (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who find their blissful house taken over by the yuppie Deetz family as well as their out of touch daughter Lydia. The Maitlands, desperate to remove the Deetz from their house, look to the “bio-exorcist”, Beetlejuice. However, they’re met by unintended consequences after they utter his name three time. Beetlejuice grossed $74 million in the United States with a budget of just $15 million. It brought Keaton back to popularity and made Ryder an international star.
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice was so well-known that it led to an animated series from ABC between 1989 and 1991, Kenner action figures, video games and even an Broadway musical in 2018. The film Beetlejuice wasn’t released despite the huge success of the film. It was due to the scripting and scheduling issues. Ryder has been pursuing the possibility of a sequel for a long time, believing that it could only be made with Keaton as well as Burton as co-stars.

“Obviously this was an iconic film,” Ryder said. The only way that this could ever happen was through Tim Burton and Michael Keaton. I don’t know. This film has a message that is universally appealing. It’s interesting. It would be amazing to see this happen. If the conditions were in place. You can tell you’re getting older when TV series, sequels, or plays are created for the same things that you did.
In 2022 Brad Pitt’s production firm Plan B confirmed the development of Beetlejuice 2..
