How Avengers: Secret Wars Might Follow the Infinity War Model and Split Into Two Movies

Marvel is believed to be exploring the idea of dividing Avengers: Secret Wars into two films, with one being announced for Phase 7.

Avengers Secret Wars may be delayed for Marvel fans. Marvel Studios is reportedly in early discussions about splitting the superhero epic that is set to release in two films. This would have the latter part delayed until Phase 7.

Inside the Magic has revealed that reliable insiders say that Marvel Studios is rethinking how to make Secret Wars. One of the plans is to split the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installment into two movies. If Marvel decides to go down this route, Secret Wars Part II and the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga will be delayed “a couple of years”. Rumors suggesting that Marvel Studios was thinking about turning the upcoming blockbuster into two separate films surfaced online in February 2023. These rumors have been floating online since February 2023. Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to respond to them. Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled to debut on the big screen on May 1, 2026.

Avengers: Secret Wars was revealed at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con and are likely to be the direct sequel to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The plot details for the upcoming Avengers sequels are under wraps, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will reportedly have an antagonistic part in The Kang Dynasty. Strange is now a major actor in The Multiverse Saga, with the character’s recent film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, appearing to be the catalyst for the Secret Wars storyline. The film’s closing credits scene in 2022 mentioned an impending “incursion,” a term pulled from the 2015 Secret Wars comic book storyline, which is used to describe two worlds that are set to collide. Michael Waldron, whose MCU writing credits include Loki and Multiverse of Madness is writing the screenplay for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel is insisting on quality over quantity

While the first three phases of the MCU which is referred to collectively as The Infinity Saga — were generally well-received by both people who loved the films and their critics However, the exact opposite couldn’t be said for the recently ended Phase 4, which received mixed reviews. Following “internal negative feedback” about the distribution and quality, Marvel Studios is reportedly reviewing its slate for the upcoming season with a stronger concentration on quality rather than quantity. Though it’s not yet known, Marvel Studios may be considering splitting Avenger’s Secret Wars into two movies and expanding The Multiverse Saga through another phase. The decision already has had an impact on Echo and Ironheart as well as Agatha and the Coven of Chaos.

Who will be the one to oversee secret wars?

At the moment there is no director involved in Avengers: Secret WarsShang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is currently working to helm The Kang Dynasty but is not scheduled to be the director of Secret Wars. Anthony and Joe Russo who directed Avengers and Avengers are not likely to be in the race for the sixth Avengers movie. Black Panther Wakanda Forever It was rumored that Ryan Coogler had been employed in the latter part of 2022. But he denied the reports and said they were “crazy”. It’s unclear when Marvel will announce a director for Secret Wars.

Avengers Secret Wars will release in theaters on May 1st, 2026.
